"I Wanna Be Your Man" is a song from Roger Troutman's 1987 solo album Unlimited! He was the frontman for Zapp, a funk band that contained three of his brothers. The band had several big hits including "More Bounce to the Ounce.” "Computer Love" which featured Roger singing through a synth-aided talk box. "I Wanna Be Your Man" utilizes that electro-funk sound over a sexy slow groove. During the 90s, he was invited to be a guest artist on several rap records, most notably 2Pac and Dr. Dre’s massive hit "California Love." Sadly, on April 25, 1999, Roger was found critically shot outside his Dayton, Ohio recording studio. His brother Larry was found in his car with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in what was a murder/suicide. The two had some recent disagreements regarding financial and band management situations.
