Sesame Street has been entertaining millions of children all over the world since premiering in 1969, becoming a fixed part of the cultural lexicon with its host of larger-than-life characters like Kermit the Frog, the Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and Elmo. "Rubber Duckie" is sung by the long-running character of Ernie—who has been around since the beginning and together with Bert forms part of the comic duo Bert and Ernie. "Rubber Duckie" is an on-brand number from the bathtime enthusiast whose love for his rubber duckie often gets in the way of important endeavours like learning the saxophone. "Rubber Duckie, joy of joys / When I squeeze you, you make noise / Rubber Duckie, you're my very best friend, it's true," joyously sings Ernie aka Jim Henson, show creator and creative brains behind The Muppet Show. Written by Jeffrey Moss, who can also be heard on the song squeezing the duckie to make it squeak, "Rubber Duckie" swam to shore in 1970 and has been a Sesame Street staple ever since.
