Janae Nierah Wherry aka St. Louis-born rapper and singer Sexyy Red first began flexing her talents online attention in 2018 with a reimagining of Vanessa Carlton's 2002 piano pop masterstroke "A Thousand Miles," renamed "Ah Thousand Jugs." Sexyy Red's divisive breakout hit "Pound Town" of January 2023 was created with Grammy-nominated producer Tay Keith and features the then-rising rapper freestyling over distorted, hard-boiled beats. Her unfiltered lines had conservative America up in arms but they were lapped up by music fans. "Pound Town" became a viral success story that paved the way for a superstar collaboration with Nicki Minaj on "Pound Town 2," which saw Tay Keith step up to the production controls once again. The sequel became Sexyy Red's first ticket into Billboard Hot 100 chartland and it's been a whirlwind ever since. In August 2023, she was recruited as the opening act for Drake on his co-headlining tour with 21 Savage, It's All a Blur Tour.
