Steel Pulse are harnessing the magical powers of reggae and "commanding you to dance" on this party-starting cut. "Invisible music, beam me up / To the cradle of sound, riddle me this (yeh) / You cannot see it, nowhere on Earth / Can this reggae be found," they sing, sounding celebratory and joyous in their creative embrace. "Steppin' Out" is a call to let go and let loose, serving up a little light refreshment on an album that thrusts a number of socio-political issues and world crises into the spotlight: Earth Crisis (1984). UK reggae legends Steel Pulse—aka school pals David Hinds (the group's primary scribe as well as the lead singer and guitarist), Basil Gabbidon (guitar), and Ronnie "Stepper" McQueen (bass)—crept into the US Billboard 200 with Earth Crisis, which was the follow-up to their 1982 album True Democracy and remains a cautionary tale that sadly still feels urgent today.
