The prize for one of the longest song titles in soft-rock certainly goes to Steely Dan and this breezy bluesy-pop number from 1975. Centered on a thick chunk of a groove, "Daddy Don't Live in That New York City No More" is a slinky, jazz-infused three-minute tale about a con man who seems to be either dead or on the run. Written by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, "Daddy Don't Live in That New York City No More" appeared on Steely Dan's fourth studio album Katy Lied, which was released by ABC Records in March 1975 and was significantly the band's first LP to include backing vocals from Michael McDonald. Meanwhile, "Daddy Don't Live in That New York City No More" was notably the first time that future mainstay Larry Carlton would step up to play guitar on one of the band's tracks. Katy Lied reached number 13 on the Billboard Top LPs & Tape chart in the US and was later certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
