There have been some unlikely and surprising collaborations in the world of pop music, but few have been as interesting and fruitful as the coming-together of legendary English singer-songwriter Sting and Jamaican reggae pioneer Shaggy. The pair worked together in 2018 to produce the album 44/876, which blends the world-music sensibilities of Sting’s solo career and the pop-leaning reggae of Shaggy. Just One Lifetime is one of the album’s highlights, released as the third commercial single for the record. The song was written by Sting, Shaggy, and Rohan Rankine, with additional input from producers Shaun Pizzonia and Shane Hoosong. Just One Lifetime is a reggae-influenced pop song that features Sting’s signature smooth vocals as well as Shaggy’s upbeat rap style. The song is about making the best of the one lifetime we all have here on Earth. 44/876, its parent album, peaked at Number 9 on the UK Albums chart, and Number 40 on the US Billboard 200.
