Stone Sour kicked off their career with a self-titled debut album in 2002 and went on to release another five studio albums – Come What(ever) May (2006), Audio Secrecy (2010), House of Gold & Bones – Part 1 (2012), House of Gold & Bones – Part 2 (2013) and Hydrograd (2017) – before going on indefinite hiatus in 2020. "Song #3" is one of the highlights of the Des Moines, Iowa rockers' sixth album, Hydrograd, which won the award for Hard Rock Album of the Year at the Loudwire Music Awards and marked the first Stone Sour album to be created without founding guitarist Jim Root, who quit the band in 2014. "Song #3" – a melodic sail through hooky, rocky waters and gnarly guitar solos – depicts a passionate romance about which singer Corey Taylor declares, "It doesn't really matter what you do or say / I'm never goin' anywhere anyway / 'Cause when I'm dyin' for you / I've never felt so alive".
