Voice-of-a-generation LA punks Suicidal Tendencies raged against Ronald Reagan and encapsulated the anger and disappointment felt by American youth on their classic 1983 self-titled debut album; 12 short, sharp, bold and beefy battle cries helmed by the force of nature that is Mike Muir. There is no doubt that Suicidal Tendencies is one of the best punk rock albums of all time and a high-water mark for hardcore. "Institutionalized" is the album's showstopper, notable for being one of the first hardcore punk videos to receive heavy rotation on MTV and immortalised in the Emilio Estevez-starring movie Repo Man as well as an episode of Miami Vice. On "Institutionalized" Suicidal Tendencies conjure a potent mood of teenage angst, rallying against parental disconnection in a four-minute blast of half-sung, half-spoken thrash-punk energy that gave us the now-iconic quote: "All I wanted was a fucking Pepsi".
