"Crosseyed and Painless" is one of the many highlights on the mammoth, polyrhythm-rich fourth studio album by Talking Heads, Remain in Light (1980). Atop a funky rhythmic palette featuring congas, cowbells, and bells and some typically abstract lyrics sung-spoken by David Byrne, "Crosseyed and Painless" paints the portrait of a mutable narrator on the edge of a potential mental health crisis ("Lost my shape, trying to act casual / Can't stop, I might end up in the hospital / Changing my shape, I feel like an accident"). Like the rest of Remain in Light, the track was recorded with the legendary producer Brian Eno who was also given a writing credit along with Talking Heads band members. "Crosseyed and Painless" was released as a promotional single from the LP in 1980 and accompanied by a music video directed by Toni Basil. Meanwhile, Remain in Light went on to become of the best albums ever made.
