Tom Hanks stepped into the director's chair for the first time in 1996 to bring That Thing You Do! to the silver screen, co-starring in the film alongside Tom Everett Scott, Liv Tyler, Johnathon Schaech, Steve Zahn, Ethan Embry, and Charlize Theron. The music-packed film chronicles the life and times of a fictional 1960s one-hit wonder pop band called the Wonders and is fortified with plenty of singalong goodness. Appearing on the movie's soundtrack along with the band's signature real-life hit "That Thing You Do!" "Little Wild One" was penned by the US power-pop band Gigolo Aunts (rather than the late Adam Schlesinger, bassist for Fountains of Wayne and Ivy) and intended as a "faux-Beatles"-style homage. The Wonders can be seen performing the track in the film, which was later nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song on the strength of the aforementioned Billboard Hot 100 hit "That Thing You Do!"
