The Beatles jumped on the AI bandwagon to bring their last-ever recording back to life in 2023. The core of the ghostly, melancholic "Now and Then" was written and recorded as a demo by John Lennon in 1977 and revisited for the group's 1995–1996 retrospective project The Beatles Anthology, but ultimately consigned to the history books for three decades. However, thanks to Peter Jackson's future-facing machine-learning-assisted audio restoration technology, the group's surviving members, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, were able to piece the track together using overdubs and guitar tracks by the late George Harrison captured during the abandoned 1995 sessions. The result is the so-called "last Beatles song," which was released as a single in 2023 and flooded the charts all over the world, reaching the summit in Germany, Austria, and the UK. "Now and Then" is also notably the only Beatles UK chart-topper created outside of the Lennon–McCartney songwriting partnership.
