The Blues Brothers could do it all—dance, act, sing, and crack jokes. Originating in a musical sketch on Saturday Night Live in 1978, comedy-musical masterminds Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi set about releasing their debut album of revivalist blues later that year; the cult offering Briefcase Full of Blues. Paying homage to blue-eyed soul slinger Curtis Salgado, Briefcase Full of Blues is stuffed full of howling blues and soul remakes from the 1950s and 1970s. Two years later, The Blues Brothers made it official with the comedy movie to end all comedy movies. The Blues Brothers featured musical cameos from an impressive lineup of greats, including Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles, while the duo performed their requisite covers. They brought in female backing singers for "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love," written by Bert Berns, Solomon Burke, and Jerry Wexler, and originally immortalised by trailblazer Solomon Burke in 1964.
