As lead singer of Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant toured the world and sold millions of records. In the 80s he fulfilled a longtime dream of putting together a 50s style rock and roll band called The Honeydrippers. "Rockin' at Midnight" was released as the first single but DJs started playing the B side, "Sea of Love." Plant was horrified because it was a particularly mellow song and he was worried about the reaction he might get from fans of his previous band. His old fans and some new ones connected with "Sea of Love,” which hit #3. Next, "Rockin' at Midnight" had its chance. The song, which features a swinging horn section and a solo from guitar hero Jeff Beck, reached #25. There was talk of a full album but The Honeydrippers: Volume One EP remains the group's only studio recording.
The backing track for "Rockin' at Midnight" is available as an instrumental on Karaoke Version.
