“It’s Hard to Kiss the Lips at Night That Chew Your Ass Out All Day Long” is an unlikely title for a country hit but it happened in 2004 for The Notorious Cherry Bombs. The band was a bit of a super-group made up of successful artists and producers who started out as members of Emmylou Harris’ backing band. When Rodney Crowell struck out on his own, he picked several of those players to be his touring back and they became known as The Cherry Bombs. Years later they regrouped as The Notorious Cherry Bombs to make an album. Members included country superstar Vince Gill and one of Nashville’s most successful producers, Tony Brown. With lyrics like “I remember when her eyes used to be so blue and shiny/ God you oughta see what's happened to her hiney,” it makes sense that the song also included the line “It's all right if we say it/ Cause the radio won't play it,” but they did, at least enough to reach #23 on the Billboard Country chart.
