"Monkey Man" is a song from the Rolling Stones off their eighth studio album Let It Bleed. The song was inspired by Italian pop artist, musician, and filmmaker Mario Schifano. Both Mick Jagger and Keith Richards appeared in Schifano's film Umano non Umano (Human not Human). The lyrics contain references to drug use. "I'm a fleabit peanut monkey / And all my friends are junkies / That's not really true / I'm a cold Italian pizza / I could use a lemon squeezer / What you do?". In the middle of recording songs for Let It Bleed, the Stones fired founding member Brian Jones for drug use. Jones wasn't the only member using drugs but he wasn't showing up to the studio and only played on two of the songs. Even with all the drama, the band was able to create an album considered one of their best.
The backing track for "Monkey Man" is available with background vocals and as an instrumental on Karaoke Version.
