This lip-smacking rock 'n' roller from The Runaways deserves its own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Written by The Runaways' legendary rhythm guitarist, backing vocalist, and ringleader Joan Jett with Kim Fowley, the band's then-manager, the explosive song is based on a Cherry Bomb – a small firework popular with kids – but is recontextualized to tell the tale of a wayward teenager who taunts her parents with boasts of bad behaviour and promiscuity ("Stone Age love and strange sounds too / Come on, baby, let me get to you / Bad nights causin' teenage blues / Get down, ladies, you got nothin' to lose"). Released in 1976, "Cherry Bomb" was the debut single from The Runaways and remains a timeless classic of the rock canon, particularly in the world of all-female rock. "Cherry Bomb" was featured in Marvel Studios' 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy and the following year was performed by Joan Jeff at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during her induction, accompanied by Dave Grohl.
