"Louisiana Rain" is the rousing ballad that closes out Tomy Petty & The Heartbreakers' triple platinum-selling 1979 opus Damn the Torpedoes. The country-oriented song is a mellow departure from the rest of the heartland rocker-packed album and bolstered by lustrous slide guitar from Mike Campbell, who imbues the bucolic lyrics with a country twang that's compounded by harmonica from Tom Petty. "Louisiana rain is falling at my feet / Baby, I'm noticing the change as I move down the street / Louisiana rain is soaking through my shoes / I may never be the same when I reach Baton Rouge," sings Tom Petty in the song's sweeping chorus. Widely viewed as one of the great rock albums of the 20th century, Damn the Torpedoes hung around at number two on the Billboard albums chart for seven weeks – kept away from the top spot by Pink Floyd’s The Wall – and went on to sell nearly three million copies.
