"Wolf Like Me" is peak TV On The Radio: a scuzzy, arty indie-rock beast in dance-punk clothing. The track, which served as the lead single from the Brooklyn group's career-defining, David Bowie-featuring second album Return to Cookie Mountain (2006), gave the alternative band their biggest commercial victory in the US, where it climbed to number 37 on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart in 2006 while also marking their second singles chart appearance in the UK. The song's meaning is open to interpretation but the overwhelmingly sexually charged lyrics point to one thing, and one thing only: "Say, say, my playmate / Won't you lay hands on me? / Mirror my malady? / Transfer my tragedy?""Wolf Like Me" was ultimately the single that put TV On the Radio on the path to indie celebrity, with guitarist Dave Sitek also independently forging a hyper-successful career as an in-demand producer, working with everyone from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Beady Eye to Weezer.
