When Dusty Springfield recorded "I Only Want to Be with You" in 1963, never in her wildest dreams would she have conceived a heavy metal reawakening of the song 50 years later. Written by Mike Hawker and Ivor Raymonde, this sweet-toothed '60s pop song about a teenage crush went to Number four on the UK singles chart and was performed by Dusty Springfield on the first-ever edition of the BBC's Top of the Pops on January 1, 1964. A distant cry from '60s ToTP territory, Volbeat’s 2012 version – renamed as "I Only Wanna Be With You" – turned the tune on its head and fortified the pretty tune with blast beats and heavy guitars for a brawny metal cover included on their debut 2005 album The Strength / The Sound / The Songs. The Danish four-piece – aka vocalist and guitarist Michael Poulsen, guitarist Rob Caggiano, drummer Jon Larsen and bassist Kaspar Boye Larsen – followed in the footsteps of Mexican singer Luis Miguel, who recorded the song in 1987, and Samantha Fox, who covered the track in 1989.
