Part of the glam metal movement that swept US rock in the '80s, White Lion was formed in New York City in 1983 by Danish vocalist/guitarist Mike Tramp and American guitarist Vito Bratta with the band launching themselves onto the scene with their debut album Fight to Survive in 1985. They hit their stride in the second half of the '80s, going to number eight in 1987 with power-ballad "Wait" and to number three with "When the Children Cry" from their second album, the double platinum-selling Pride (1987). "Tell Me" – a hairspray-fueled tale of elopement young love ("We were teenagers / Far away from home / We were cold and all alone"... "We were young in love / Out on the run / We were cold and all alone") – was released as the second single from that album, going to number 25 on the Mainstream Rock chart as well as charting at number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100.
