"Essence" is a song by Wizkid featuring fellow Nigerian singer Tems. The sensual song finds the two artists expressing their desire for each other. "I feel it comin' / Time is of the essence / I tried to teach you / But I might need some lessons." Wizkid, born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, sings some lyrics in Yoruba, the language of his people from Southwestern Nigeria. The talented artist started writing and recording songs at 11 and by 19 had signed a major record deal. In 2016 Wizkid collaborated with Drake on "One Dance" which became an international smash, topping the charts in the US and 14 other countries. "Essence" is the first Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. The remix, featuring Justin Bieber, hit the top 10.
