"Oompa Loompa" is the theme tune of the titular characters from the 2023 musical fantasy blockbuster directed by Paul King, Wonka; the third live-action movie based on Roald Dahl's iconic 1964 novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The Divine Comedy frontman Neil Hannon stepped in to pen the shiny new soundtrack for this Timothée Chalamet-starring prequel, which featured a score by Joby Talbot and tells the story of how Willy Wonky became a chocolatier. "Oompa Loompa" takes its sonic cue from the original 1971 song but features revised lyrics from Neil Hannon who conveys a key point in the plot: the "tragic tale" of Loompaland and the cacao beans harvest, as sung here by Hugh Grant, who plays an oompa-loompa named Lofty. Wonka, which was co-written with Simon Farnaby, is the successor to the films Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005).
