Released on May 22, 1989, the seminal hip-hop classic "Bust a Move" is credited with breaking British-American rapper Young MC into the mainstream music market. Written by Young MC with producers Matt Dike and Michael Roos, the song's main segment made extensive use of the guitar riff in Ballin' Jack's "Found a Child" and sampled the drums from RoyalCash's "Radio-Activity," while the instrumental break combined a sample from Dennis Coffey and the Detroit Guitar Band's "Scorpio" with Bette Middler's "Daytime Hustler." The track also featured guest vocals by singer Crystal Blake and bass guitar by Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Included in Young MC's studio debut Stone Cold Rhymin' (1989), "Bust a Move" was a huge success in the United States, where it climbed to Number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was also certified Platinum by the RIAA in 1990 after selling 1 million copies. Since then, "Bust a Move" has been featured in several films and TV series and is now considered one of the greatest hip-hop songs of all time.
