"Margaritaville" is an iconic track from American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett's 1977 seventh studio album, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes. It was written by Jimmy Buffett and produced Norbert Putnam. Evoking the laid-back, sun-soaked beach resort life, the song unravels a man's season-long escapades to forget about the aftermath of a failed romance. As the choruses progress, there's an evident shift in the man's introspection: beginning with denial and blame-shifting and ending in the acceptance of his own mistakes. Interestingly, the song was initially meant for Elvis Presley but, sadly, the King of Rock and Roll passed away the same year. Shortly after its release, Margaritaville reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, topped the Easy Listening chart, and peaked at number 13 on the Hot Country Songs chart. Two decades later, in 1999, the tune found new life. Country music star Alan Jackson breathed fresh air into "Margaritaville" in his album Under the Influence, with Jimmy Buffett himself lending his voice to the final verse, a version which hit number 63 on the charts.
