Former Van Halen vocalist David Lee Roth swapped his usual hard rock theatrics for this Frank Sinatra classic. "That's Life" was originally written by Dean Kay and Kelly Gordon and first recorded in 1963 by Marion Montgomery, with the aforementioned Frank Sinatra popularising the song in 1966. Twenty years later, David Lee Roth made an entrance and threw a curveball with his surprising version of the track recorded for his first post-Van Halen solo album Eat 'Em and Smile. "That's Life" was one of two lounge song covers on Eat 'Em and Smile along with "I'm Easy," written by Billy Field and Tom Price while also covering John D. Loudermilk's 1960 blues song "Tobacco Road." "That's Life" was a modest hit for David Lee Roth in 1986 while Eat 'Em and Smile fared much better in terms of chart success, going all the way to number four on the US Billboard 200 chart and cementing the future solo career of its newest adopter.
