Detroit-born legend Suzi Quatro rose to fame during the 1970s wirh a raft of hit singles including "Can the Can" (1973) and "Devil Gate Drive"(1974) and a variety of albums including the funk-tinted 1975 offering Your Mamma Won't Like Me. In 1978, she upped her game with "Stumblin' In," written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn, and released as a single that year. Suzi Quatro performed the song as a duet with the gravelly voiced Rod Stewart-evoking Chris Norman, who was the frontman for British soft-rockers Smokie, and both artists hit the jackpot with their biggest commercial success to date. "Stumblin' In" went to number four on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1979 and well as hitting number 11 on the Canada RPM Chart and number one on the Canada Adult Contemporary Chart. In 2021, "Stumblin' In" reached a new generation of culture consumers when it was featured in the popular Paul Thomas Anderson film, Licorice Pizza.
