Written and recorded by Bill Anderson, "Walk Out Backwards" hung around for 14 weeks on the Billboard Hot Country and Western Sides chart before hitting Number 9 in February 1960 and gave the South Carolina-born artist a career breakthrough that helped pave the way for future career that included a slew of hits in the 1970s: "Love Is a Sometimes Thing," "All the Lonely Women in the World" and "World of Make Believe."
