Bonnie Raitt deals out some invaluable tongue-in-cheek advice on this empowering 1971 blues heavyweight "Women Be Wise." "Women be wise / Keep your mouth shut / Don't advertise your man / Don't sit around gossiping / Explaining what your good man really can do / Some women nowadays / Lord they ain't no good." "Women Be Wise" was written in 1967 by trailblazing blueswoman Sippie Wallace English who early in her career earned the nickname "The Texas Nightingale" and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1982, just four years before her death. With her sublime interpretation of "Women Be Wise," Bonnie Raitt pays homage to the pioneering work of this sensational feminist blues icon. "Women Be Wise" was included on the award-winning artist's career-defining debut album of 1971, which she recorded when she was just 21 years of age and brought a raft of blues standards to life including Robert Johnson's "Walking Blues."
