"Car Hiss by My Window" is a track from The Doors' 1971 sixth studio album, L.A. Woman. Written by The Doors and produced by the band with Bruce Botnik, the song features additional backing instrumentation by Elvis Presley's bassist Jerry Scheff and guitarist Marc Benno. It was recorded during the album's final recording sessions alongside other album tracks such as "Crawling King Snake," "Been Down So Long," and "L.A. Woman." Driven forward by a simple guitar riff in the vein of blues musician Jimmy Reed, "Car Hiss by My Window" is a classic blues-rock track whose lyrics depict a couple falling out of love with each other. Towards the end of the song, lead singer Jim Morrison can be heard impersonating a wah-wah guitar first and then a harmonica. A new stereo mix of the song featuring an added verse was later included in the 2007 re-release of L.A. Woman. The LP would be the band's final album with Jim Morrison, who passed away two months and two weeks following its release.
