With the release of 2022’s “Worth a Shot,” American singer and songwriter Elle King lives up to a tried-and-true country music tradition of writing songs about heartbreak that also double as songs about drinking alcohol. A standalone single following her 2018 album Shake the Spirit (as well as its pandemic-influenced 2020 EP follow-up In Isolation), “Worth of a Shot” is a catchy country-rock song about finding ways to cope with life’s disappointments. The playful lyrics talk about not knowing whether the drinking will help, but as the saying goes, “at least it’s worth a shot.” It features additional vocals by fellow country music singer Dierks Bentley. Though it was first recorded by Dierks Bentley solo, the duo decided to turn the song into a duet (having already collaborated once before, in the 2016 hit “Different for Girls”). “Worth a Shot” was written by Ross Copperman and Shane McAnally. The single made it to Number 48 on the US Country Songs chart.
