Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge! film-maker Baz Luhrmann set his sights on Elvis Presley for his 2022 biographical musical drama film Elvis, which is split up into three parts and spans centuries to cover the various different iterations of "the King". The movie stars Austin Butler as Elvis with Tom Hanks as Parker, while Olivia DeJonge, Helen Thomson, Richard Roxburgh, Kelvin Harrison Jr., David Wenham, and Kodi Smit-McPhee also co-star, and was accompanied by a fitting, seamlessly curated soundtrack that more than does Elvis's oeuvre justice. This frenzied Elvis Presley version of 1968 rock 'n roller "Polk Salad Annie," which depicts the life of a rural southern girl and her family and the titular pokeweed foodstuff, appears in the film and on the soundtrack and was originally written and performed by Tony Joe White in 1968.
