Elevating the simple act of sitting in the park to suave soul heights, GQ delivered a luxe version of a song originally written and performed by Billy Stewart for Chess Records in 1965 and featured on Billy Stewart's 1965 album I Do Love You. 15 years later, the Bronx-based outfit parked up in the same spot to put a zeitgeisty R&B spin on this croon-a-thon about waiting for a lover to show, with singer Emmanuel Rahiem LeBlanc belting out the yearning lyrics joined by a chorus of oohing and aahing backing singers. "Sitting in the Park" – which cracked the R&B top ten – was featured on GQ's second album Two, which was released by Arista in 1980, produced by Larkin Arnold and Jimmy Simpson, and peaked at number nine on the R&B chart and number 46 on the pop chart. Sampled over the years by an array of artists from Slick Rick and Tomppabeats to Lily Allen, "Sitting in the Park" is the hit that keeps on giving.
