Singer, songwriter, entertainer, and retirement home proprietor Jimmy Buffett began sculpting his unique tropical-loving persona and self-styled 'gulf and western' sound after moving to Key West in the early 1970s. During his decades-long music career, he bagged a string of beachy hits that he referred to as "the Big 8," which included his signature tune "Margaritaville" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise." The late icon died on 1 September 2023 due to complications from a rare and aggressive form of skin cancer, but not without leaving behind a treasured legacy worthy of a pirate's haul. Still making music up until his death, "Like My Dog" was one of Jimmy Buffett's final recordings; a cover of the 2011 country song by Harley Allen and Scotty Emerick and recorded by Billy Currington. The Caribbean-flavoured, steelpan-boosted rework was included on Jimmy Buffett's 32nd studio album, Equal Strain on All Parts, posthumously released in November 2023.
