Your Lying Blue Eyes is a simple song about the complex feeling of deception. In the lyrics, country star John Anderson describes a telling moment when the lies become apparent. "All those stories I've been hearing / I wouldn't believe that they were true / But just this morning over coffee / Your lying blue eyes just told on you," he sings, backed by a classic country composition. "Your lying blue eyes used to charm me / Hypnotize me through and through / Like a fool Lord I've been dreaming / Your lying blue eyes just told on you," he continues, turning a song about cheating into a Top 20 country hit. John Anderson was at the height of his career when "Your Lying Blue Eyes" rolled into town, having already gathered pace on the chart in 1977 with "I’ve Got a Feelin’ (Somebody's Been Stealin')," before cracking the Top 40 with "The Girl at the End of the Bar" in 1978. Written by Ken McDuffie, John Anderson first released "Your Lying Blue Eyes" in 1979 went to number 15.
