"3 Small Words" was featured in the 2001 movie starring Rachael Leigh Cook, Josie and the Pussycats; a spin-off from the comic strip of the same name about girl bands and boy bands. Josie and the Pussycats are the star of their own movie, a fictitious rock band first created in 1969 by Dan DeCarlo. Pop-punk ripper "3 Small Words" sees frontwoman Josie tick off all the reasons her man's behaviour isn't quite up to scratch. "It took 6 whole hours, and 5 long days / 4 all your lies to come undone / And those 3 small words were way 2 late / Can't you see that I'm the 1," she roars. "3 Small Words" was surprisingly produced by super-producer Babyface; a far cry from the R&B artists like Mary J. Blige and Boyz II Men that he is known for producing. The song was featured on the 2001 soundtrack LP Music from the Motion Picture Josie and the Pussycats, which achieved gold status and made it to number 16 on the US Billboard 200.
