Ed Sheeran revisits his early hip-hop roots on this pop rap-led bullet from his fifth studio album =(2021), which was created with US rapper Lil Baby and appears as the ninth track on his critically acclaimed LP. The track, which begins with Ed Sheeran declaring "I had a bad week / Spent the evening pretending it wasn't that deep / You could see in my eyes that it was taking over / I guess I was just blind and caught up in the moment," explores the pressures and stresses of life and fame and his desire to shake these off on a much-needed night out with his wife ("We'll go all night / Two-steppin' with the woman I love / All my troubles turn to nothin' when I'm in your eyes, electrified / We'll keep turnin' up and go all night"). Ed Sheeran released a new version of "2step" in May 2022 which featured Ukrainian pop-rockers Antytila and filmed the music video for the song, directed by Henry Scholfield, in Kyiv, Ukraine, which was shot before the Russian invasion. All proceeds from the YouTube streams of “2step” went to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
