Pop-punk heavyweights MxPx were formed in 1992 by teenage classmates Mike Herrera, Yuri Ruley, and Andy Husted, and quickly gained popularity by blasting out catchy, accessible melodic 1990s punk that spoke to a generation of music lovers. The Washington band dropped their debut album Pokinatcha in 1994 on Tooth & Nail Records with the 1995 follow-up Teenage Politics making it into the US Christian Albums Chart Top 20. Capturing their pure pop-punk essence, "Chick Magnet" formed the dynamic, riotous centrepiece of MxPx's third album Life in General, whose commercial success ultimately helped pave the way for a record deal with A&M Records that followed shortly after. Life in General, which also spawned another MxPx staple in "Move to Bremerton," was reissued in 1998 and followed hot on the heels by the band's first full-length major-label outing, Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo, which cracked the US Billboard Hot 200 chart at 99.
