After forming in 1964 in Bradford, British rockers Smokie scored their biggest hit to date in 1977 with "Living Next Door to Alice," soaring to number three in the UK while crossing the Atlantic and grabbing the 25th spot on the Billboard Hot 100. They even hit the jackpot in Australia, where they made it to the top of the Australian singles chart. Originally written and produced by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapmann, “Living Next Door to Alice,” was first released by Australian vocal harmony trio New World in 1972 and featured on Smokie’s third studio album “Midnight Café."
