Since the birth of modern country music in the early 1920s, trucking culture has prevailed as one of the most referenced subjects in the genre, so much so that an entire subgenre was dedicated to the adventures of truckers during their long-haul trips throughout the nation. Pioneered by artists like Dave Dudley, Red Sovine, Dick Curless, Red Simpson, Del Reeves, and the Willis Brothers, truck-driving country capitalized on rural America's enduring fascination with big rigs while simultaneously paying homage to the vastness of the American territory. One fine example of such type of song is "Long White Line," originally written by Buford Abner and recorded for the first time by Charlie Moore and Bill Napier in 1965. The story of a man trying to put an end to his heartache by abusing drugs and traveling great distances, "Long White Line" was further popularized by Aaron Tippin in the 1990s. In 2014, the song was covered by country singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson on his second studio album, Metamodern Sounds in Country Music.
