Among Philadelphia International Records' finest purveyors of lush soul, R&B vocal group The O'Jays' formed in Canton, Ohio in 1958 and began making gentle waves with single "Lonely Drifter" in 1963. However, they hit the big time when they teamed up with tastemaking producers and songwriters Gamble & Huff in 1972. Signing to the aforementioned label that year, they scored their first hit with the uptempo "Back Stabbers" and fared well on a future cache of danceable singles, from "Message In Our Music" and the indelible "Love Train" to "Put Your Hands Together". However, they sound most at home with a ballad and "Let Me Make Love to You" shows The O'Jays doing what they do best. The slow-burning song – which reached number 10 on the R&B chart – is the second track on their 1975 Survival album, which was penned by Gamble & Huff and also spawned a chart-topping hit in "Give the People What They Want".
