When it comes to lyrics, there are various time-honored traditions in blues music. There’s drowning one’s sorrows in whisky, there’s expressing social unrest, and then there’s pining for lost love. “Crying Shame,” the opening track to the first full-length album by Australian blues-rock group The Teskey Brothers, is a great example of the latter; a hard-edged song about loving the wrong person – or rather, having once loved the wrong person, and now lamenting the dissolution of that relationship. Written by the band – led by the sibling duo of John Teskey and Sam Teskey – “Crying Shame” was recorded as part of the group’s album Half Mile Harvest (2017). It was recorded by producers Brendon Love and Sam Teskey. And though it was not released as a promotional single, “Crying Shame” garnered acclaim from fans and critics alike for its soulful sound. Half Mile Harvest peaked at Number 18 on the Australian Albums chart.
