"The Ghetto" is a song from West Coast rapper Too Short's sixth studio album, Short Dog's in the House (1990). A combination of the sexually explicit material that made him popular and more socially-conscious songs, the album addressed the ongoing crack epidemic that severely affected his hometown of Oakland, California. Such is the case of the LP's lead single "The Ghetto," which discussed the everyday struggle of Black people living in inner cities across the United States. Officially released on October 8, 1990, "The Ghetto" was built around a sample of Donny Hathaway's song of the same name. It was produced by Too Short and Al Eaton, and it peaked at Number 3 on Billboard's Hot Rap Songs chart. Over a decade later, the track was featured on the fictional station Radio Los Santos in the 2004 video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Its parent album, Short Dog's in the House, reached Number 3 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
