"More Bounce to the Ounce" was Zapp's debut single. The electro-funk track was written, arranged, and produced by frontman Roger Troutman. His distinctive talkbox vocal gave the song a futuristic vibe. The title comes from a vintage Pepsi ad that bragged that the soft drink had more bounce to the ounce because it had more sugar than its competitors. Troutman used the expression to sing about a sexy woman on the dance floor. "Get-get-get-get-get-get on the dance floor, baby / I never ever, ever seen a sexy girl like you, baby." The song has been sampled by many artists, including Snoop Dogg ("Snoop Bounce"), The Notorious B.I.G. ("Going Back To Cali"), and Wu-Tang Clan ("Method Man"). In 1995, Troutman collaborated with Tupac Shakur on the chart-topping smash "California Love."
