Shortly after its release, the track spent two weeks at the Number 2 position on the Billboard Hot 100 and singlehandedly boosted Perkins' career, making him the first country artist to successfully cross over to the rhythm and blues and pop charts. However, the song's popularity would reach new heights after being covered by Elvis Presley, who included it in his groundbreaking eponymous studio debut in 1956. In the following years, "Blue Suede Shoes" became one of Elvis Presley's signature songs and was re-recorded for the soundtrack of the film G.I. Blues in 1960.
