The best soul music songs waft in like a cool summer's breeze and make you all feel warm and gooey inside. For this 1984 slow jam written by McKinley Horton and Eugene Wilde (credited under his legal name Ronald Broomfield) and recorded by Eugene Wilde, love and romance are the order of the day, while relaxing is also high on the agenda. "So, kick off your shoes / And lay back and let me soothe you," croons Eugene Wilde artfully on "Gotta Get You Home Tonight," which was produced by Donald Robinson and Michael Forte. The North Miami Beach-born artist Eugene Wilde struck gold with the soul hit in early 1985, rising all the way to the top of the US R&B chart and cracking the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 83. Twelve years later, "Gotta Get You Home Tonight" was given a new lease of life when it was sampled by US rapper Foxy Brown on her song "Get Me Home" for her career-defining 1996 album Ill Na Na.
